Wednesday morning in Jaffa

I got a text this morning from Ginger that she was going to go to mass at 7:00 AM in Jaffa. I decided to go with her.

It was windier than yesterday, nevertheless great weather.

The main church door was closed, but somebody directed us through a side door to the monastery.

We passed a pretty indoor courtyard to go to a tiny chapel in a corner.

They were reading the daily prayers. It was uncomfortable at first since I didn't have a book.

Later on they started the mass. It was all in English except for one reading in Latin. Somebody handed me a booklet with the order of worship. They had communion with wine and bread (they dipped the wafer in the wine). The priest was a Filipino man, Carlos Santos. Most (if not all) of the people attending were visitors: two guys from Spain and a small group of Filipino travelers.

During silence moments in the mass the pigeons were cooing echoing in the small round chapel.

On top of the hill, next to the church there was a plaza with several stores and a "Gelateria" (everything was closed since it was around 7:30 AM). There was a stage where local artists perform. There was also an interesting water fountain with cartoon-like sculptures.

In the way back I saw surfers on the sea. They were surfing the very small waves.
